Submit your images for publication.
Join our Guest Contributors and have your work published on these pages. And now that the site is archived at PANDORA, your stuff will be available for research purposes for ever!
Do you have some images that you think should be on this site? If you think that, we probably do too. Using the link to our email system below, you can upload photos for review and possible inclusion on ‘Stations Past’.
Images should be reasonable quality shots that fit the theme of the period being captured – from late 50’s till the mid 90’s. They need to be 800 x 600 pixels, but high quality smaller images will be fine. While the focus is on the old infrastructure, if you happen to have a train roaring through a location, that is fine too.
This is Important:
The images should be captioned, and include your own name (or pseudonym) in the caption for crediting purposes. Some graphics programs such as Picasa allow you to include captions while you are editing the photo. These captions will arrive in the review gallery intact. Otherwise put the caption in the accompanying email with the image filename it refers to
In summary, your name must be in the caption. If I don’t know who you are, I can’t publish them. Size is 800 pixels on the longest side. This site is about Stations and Yard Infrastructure, so train photos (not at stations) are unlikely to be published. The main reason for non publication or delay of publication is that stations are sent to us from lines that we have not started.
The public upload widget has been abandoned due to many images arriving either oversized or requiring a clean up. For us, it is easier to do this before they are put on the site, rather than drag them off the server for processing, so for now we’ll ask our contributors to please email us your photos. This also helps us to communicate with contributors so as we can either get more info, or offer reasons for non publication. You can also attach multiple photos to a single email, rather than uploading individual photos via the old widget. Contacting us by email is easy. Click this link to open an email dialogue and attach your photos to the resulting message form.
In order to keep a semblance of structure in this place, the following examples are the sort of things we are after:
Existing Stations:
For when we have already created a page for a station and you have some images to add to them. Once uploaded, we are notified of the fact, and will add them to the appropriate gallery if approved.
Complete Line Sections:
If you have a heap of images of a number of stations on a line section (not necessarily the entire length) you might consider helping us kick off some extra lines for the site. Or even get some other states started. Ideally, each station gallery would have four or more images. Images would be captioned with historically relevant information to aid future research.
Review.
All photos are subject to review and approval prior to being published.
Some of the comments on this page have been moved to the page that is relevant to the content or query.
Do you have photos of the RMSP’s on the Ballarat line ? As I wondering if there are any pictures of the ones that were between Deer Park and Rockbank & Rockbank to Melton ?
Thanks
Matt
Hi Matt,
Will put out a call and find out, but this one might be doubtful. One thing you could do is to post a request in the Railpage thread, seeing if : a) anyone has any, and b) they are willing to contribute them to the site. We would find them a good home here.
I have some photos of Trains on the Kingaroy and Monto branch from the early naughties ? Would it be worth my while to submit them ?
Hi hugs! Sure would, especially if they are in yards or passing significant infrastructure.
