Esk is the main population centre in the Brisbane Valley, and was the terminus of the line for 18 years between 1886 and 1904. Because of this it once had watering facilities, engine and carriage sheds, livestock yards and sidings to two sawmills and a butter factory. It also had a bar and refreshment rooms, and these can be seen by the black and white photo by Graham Watkins, in the gallery below. However most of the traffic for the line came from beyond Esk and construction towards Toogoolawah commenced in 1902.
During the 1930’s and 40’s, Esk handled large volumes of passengers and materials for the Somerset Dam.
