Moe

And Morwell

Morwell is added to this page, as we only have two images for the gallery. Davo mentioned something about chasing a blue and gold B75, and forgot to come back. Morwell is the more significant of the two stations, was the branch for the Mirboo North Line, and was terminus of the State Electricity Commission Yallourn to Morwell Interconnecting Railway.

Line diagrams and history can be found at Andrew Waugh’s VRhistory site. Some recent, although pre RFR images can be found at Ross Thompson’s Vicrailstations site.

Moe was once the junction station for the branch lines to Yallourn and Thorpdale. It was also the junction for the Narrow gauge line to Walhalla. There are more recent images over at Vicrail Stations, as well some interesting information at Vicsig.

Further comment on Moe/Morwell. The shot of the Y class is out along the Maryvale line so is strictly not Morwell.

Also the pictures of “Moe signal box” are in fact pictures of Moe auxiliary Frame, the signal box was actually a signal bay located in the station building. Andrew’s notes will show that quite clearly. The auxiliary frame building came from Williamstown Racecourse and at Moe was provided to work the connections between the main line and the yard. The main signal box could signal trains from the yard to Yallourn and from the platform to the main line but did not work any points down that end.

Re: Y class: Close enough to Morwell for the purposes of this site. It is after all a photo site, and Davo desired that the paper train image be displayed. It would otherwise be an orphan. I might need to put a disclaimer on here somewhere, noting that although we might introduce each page with a brief history (if available), it is only generic in nature, and hopefully not history changingly inaccurate. There are other sites on the net dedicated to providing precise accurate history, (which I’ll link to) so we we’ll try not to re-invent the wheel, and keep focused on getting the images published.
