The history of rail in Geelong dates back to 1857 when a line from Newport to Geelong was opened by the Geelong and Melbourne Railway Company. This entity was taken over by the Victorian Government in 1860 and the line became a part of the VR. There is lots to tell about Geelong, but you’re only here for the pictures, right? Anyway, everything you ever wanted to know about the history of Geelong has already been completed by Marcus Wong, over at his excellent www.railgeelong.com website. Saves us a heap of typing! While we are leveraging off everybody else’s hard work, it should be noted that Vicsig is also worth a look. This Link will take you to the Geelong Search results at the Vicsig Website
