Balmoral was visited twice in 1986. The station was still standing (mostly) but evidence of further decay was quite obvious only months apart.
There are even more photos of this site at Vicrail Stations, taken about 20 years after ours.
Of interest to me was the old GY wagons left abandoned in the yard here, and at Cavandish. I asked Davo about it, who replied thus:
They were still using the wagons for storage, and what was inside was being delivered, and taken out by road.
For the life of me cant remember what.
Update: Fred Sutton was able to provide the following information:
The GY wagons on the Balmoral line were required until the line was finally decommissioned. The contract for the super phosphate required that they be delivered by rail. The GY’s were left so that super could be loaded into them then delivered from them. If memory serves me there were two Gy’s at each siding.
Some photos contributed by Geoff Winkler have been added to this (and other Balmoral line) page, including one from the previous unsighted Kanagulk Station. Kanagulk was located between Balmoral and Toolondo.
