Dunolly

Dunolly was opened in 1874, and today is heritage listed as it has survived as an example of a complex of railway buildings from that period. It was the beginning of cost savings in structures, and a more simpler style of architecture, yet maintained its solidarity for the future. The goods shed has been altered, as some arches were removed at the northern and southern ends, and replaced with corrugated iron.

Even though Dunolly assumed new importance as a junction to the line from Inglewood, tapping into traffic from the former great junction of Korong Vale and it’s north west wheat branches, it was never interlocked. Some interesting photos can be found here detailing the arrangements. Today all buildings survive, and most of the yard also, however the station stands empty since being closed in 1993 after the last run of the “Vinelander”.

Vicrailstaions have some fine and more recent photos of Dunolly.
