Cope Cope

Cope Cope was opened in 1882, when the line was extended from St Arnaud to Donald. A large wooden station of a now standard design, containing offices, and a station master’s residence within was erected on these lonely plains. In 1986 the station was still there, and attended for safeworking purposes only. Passing by in 1989, I looked again for this railway outpost with it’s friendly staff. In an all too familiar scenerio these days, nothing remained of it’s location except a mound of raised earth to the side of the tracks.
