Bet Bet

Bet Bet was opened in 1874 and was a crossing loop to break up the section between Maryborough and Dunolly. Opened and closed, and reopened, during various periods in it’s history, eventually by 1922 it all settled down and became a permanent electric staff section, and a five lever frame was provided with the opening of a ballast siding to the east. In 1934 switching out facilities were provided so in quiet times it could be closed. The use of diesels reduced running times with the increased loads, and so many smaller locations became redundant. Bet Bet finally became redundant in October 1981, however the fine red brick platform, and the small building with its verandah removed, lingered on until being demolished in the late 1980s.

There is only one photo of this fine location, so we’ll just display it in (nearly) full, rather than displaying one miserable thumbnail – click for full size image. Below is the remains of the station as seen on 18/5/1986.
