The Gympie Railway Station dates from 1913, when it replaced the original structure that was built on the site. Gympie was originally a dead end station when the line was built to connect Gympie with Maryborough in 1891. Gympie was not connected to Brisbane until 1889. The Station closed as a QR Passenger station in 1995. The Mary Valley Heritage Railway become custodian of the site in 1997, and commenced operating trains from here to the nearby Mary Valley Branch in 1998.
