The line from Maryborough reached Monto on 15 September 1928. It was only an 18 hour trip by mixed train from here to Maryborough, or 21 hours to Brisbane by connecting with the mail train at the Juction station of Mungar on the North Coast Line. At least it was possible to enjoy a sleeping car to Gayndah, twice per week! The trip was reduced to a mere eight hours once the railmotor service was extended out from Maryborough.
