Yass Town

The end of the short branch from Yass Junction that opened on 20 April 1892. Passenger services finished on 18 May 1958.  A private bus service continued to carry passengers between the two locations, which seemed to honour the railway’s tickets, but it also finished on 18 May 1967. However the little goods trains that ran up and down also had spaces for the odd traveller in the guard’s van. Finally, the entire line was closed to all traffic on 14 November 1988. Today a well maintained museum has preserved the station, goods shed and surrounding area and is worth a visit if one is passing by. The fine old large steel bridge on the north of town also still stands, and can be seen from the main road and parklands.
