Binalong

Binalong is a railway station that not only has had two buildings in different locations, today, both have survived. On the original rail alignment, which is to the east of the present building and yard remains, a classic and largely original building still stands as a private residence dating back to 1875 from the line’s opening. It is one of the few early remaining examples of what was a standard design for large towns around Sydney, that eventually became suburbs. This was bypassed with a deviation in 1916 and an island platform station opened on the new alignment in 1916, and is now closed to all services. OnceĀ  one of those beautifully maintained country stations, today, though structurally sound, has become a smashed wreck with what remains of the gardens running rampant.
