This was a short line that branched off the North Coast Line at Colton, just to the North of Maryborough. The Line opened on 28 December 1896 allowing farmers in the district to transport their sugar cane to Maryborough for crushing. Being a seaside location, there were also many picnic trains visiting the branch until this traffic was decimated by the rising popularity of the private motor vehicle.
The line stopped 8 km from Urangan, which was a port for vessels too large to enter the river to Maryborough. An extension was approved in December 1911, and the line to the Jetty was opened on 20 December 1913.
The Gallery’s for this branch have the last train from Pialba, captured by Hamish Withington in 1993. This final service consisted of a single measly QLX van.
