Woomelang station opened in 1899 with the extension of the line from Birchip. Like Birchip, Woomelang remained a terminus, in this case for four years until 1903, when the line was finally put right through to Mildura. Eventually a large standard wooden building was erected here and when visited in the late 1980s was in very good order. However the station closed in 1993, when passenger services were discontinued on theĀ Mildura line. Although the station still stands, it is boarded over and left abandoned. The goods shed, slowly loosing parts of its roof, and silos, also remain at this station, and the yard contains only two tracks left out of the former four in the yard.
There are more recent photos of Woomelang at Vicrail Stations. At Andrew Waugh’s VR History site, there is a comprehensive station history for Woomelang, including yard diagrams.

By 1991 it has started to be vandalised: we found that the station’s booking office had been broken into.
Of note, it was the northern terminus of a 280hp Walker railmotor service from IIRC Ballarat.
