Bomen

Bomen for a year or so was the temporary first station of Wagga Wagga, while the Murrumbidgee River had a long bridge erected over it. Opened in 1878, for some four years the station was named North Wagga Wagga, and then when the main town of Wagga Wagga was reached in 1879, the station there was called South Wagga Wagga. In 1882 it was decided Bomen for the north, and Wagga Wagga for the south was more applicable. Naturally a fine station was erected, which survives today, although closed to passengers, and unattended since CTC signalling was put through in the early 1980s. It is located now on the edge of industry, however it’s remote location tends to see it is free of the deprivations of the more feral elements of society generally. Otherwise a crossing loop is still active, and being of historic importance the buildingsĀ  are thankfully maintained.
