Bethungra

Bethungra was another original station dating from the opening of the main south in 1878. A large solid brick building with up and down platforms, when visited in September 1990 the end was not far away. The down platform was erased, the refuges torn up, and the remaining stump of the once beautiful station building, which housed the signal box at the southern end, was attended by a signalman for the last time. The gentleman in question was decent enough to pose for a photo. Within a short time everything was razed to ground level, and this once important location to the south of the famous Bethungra spiral, was no more. A photo of showing how it was can be found at NSWrail.net here
