This large and impressive station opened in 1911 and contains a double storey station building, which had ticket offices, waiting and refreshment rooms. Traffic was that busy westwards that the triangular junction, north to Sydney, and south to Cootamundra, was double track throughout. A signal box is located at the western end of the platform, and now that it is closed, is being progressively vandalized. Some of the former signals here were unusual that they were lowered as close to possible to the ground for the nearby airport. The station has been closed to passenger services since 1983, however survived for freight working for the back interstate line to Parkes, and the Griffith area and branches until several years ago. The main buildings still linger, a reminder of the days when everything and everyone went by rail, and a provincial town needed two major stations to cope with all the traffic on offer. A community group of sorts seems to occupy the main section, while the yard has been removed and the main line reduced to the most basic running as possible.
