Galong

Galong was opened in 1877 and was moved to the present location in 1916 during deviation works. No trace of the original station remains today. The second station, which largely survives today, is well constructed out of brick, and had substantial facilities for its former important role as the junction to the now closed branch line to Boorowa. In the early 1990s Galong was closed as a passenger stop, like many other smaller stations on the south around this time. However, all was in good order until in October 2002 a freight train derailed and demolished half of the down platform building. Today the remaining portion of the main station building survives, as well as the up platform shelter, and the iron goods shed.
