Carrieton

This building, and others like it, were one of the earliest examples of a standard SAR stone building with a residence attached. Along the Peterborough to Quorn line there were four, today, three have survived with Eurelia being the lost soul. Elsewhere in South Australia they have lasted in the Adelaide Hills and to Victor Harbour, in the north Laura, Jamestown, old Beltana, and Hawker are the survivors. Carrieton was rumoured to have sold for 20 dollars including 5 acres of land in the early eighties, the only tenderer for the estate was the winner. Like other towns in this region its population and prosperity are much diminished.
