Crib Point stations serves the local township and the nearby HMAS Cerberus Navy Base. Cerberus had its own platform that was connected by an angle junction and a small branch line. The Southern leg of the angle ran into the Crib Point yard, while the north leg connected to the mainline in the section just Up from Crib Point. During a short course at Cerberus in 1979, I witnessed the phenomenon of the Friday afternoon leave train, where a rake of motley BW cars were assembled to transport excited recruits and trainees off to the delights of the big city for the weekend. I curse that I neither photographed it or rode it. During a stint as depot staff in 1981 I recall that the leave train ended with the (temporary) closure of the Stony Point line, but this may have ended before this. I do remember the lines of buses that replaced the leave train and though it rather sad. During another course in 1990 I noted that the Mornington Railway Preservation Society had a number of items of rollingstock stored in the Naval Base yard. The last movement on the small branch was when the MRPS vacated the site in 1997 to relocate to their depot at Moorooduc. There is a story about the final weeks of the MRPS at Cerberus here.
There are recent pictures of Crib Point at Vicrailstations.
