The station building photographed in our gallery has been relocated to Loch, by the South Gippsland Tourist Railway. Welshpool opened when the line was extended from Leongatha to Port Albert in 1892. Between 1905 and 1941 there was a narrow gauge horse drawn tramway operating between this town, and the port, 5 km distant.
The line beyond Welshpool closed in 1987. In 1992 Welshpool was also closed, along with the line from Leongatha.
For comparisons, there are some more recent photos at Vicrailstations.
