Yes… Allora is not on the Southern Line, but it needs to be recorded and unfortunately, it is just too small to be given its own line section.
Allora is the terminus of a short 5 km branch line that leaves the main line at Hendon. The line opened for business in 1897 after many years of lobbying by local residents. In 1912 an extension out to Goomburra was opened. To save on the cost of resumptions of property, the extension branched off the Allora branch at the Hendon end of the yard.
The branch had its own loco and crew, based at Goomburra until 1924, after which it was transferred to Allora until withdrawn in 1954. The Goomburra Branch closed in 1961, and the Allora branch was mothballed in 1995.
The Southern Downs Steam Railway now control the short branch and hope to operate tourist services there in the future. Indeed, the SDSR provide and excellent historial overview of the branch on their website.
