The line from Melbourne to Bendigo was one of the early lines that was built in the state. We kick off this segment of the line from Kyneton, which the railway reached in April 1862. By October of that year, the line was complete through to Bendigo.
Originally built as a double track main line, it received a major upgrade in 2005/6 for the regional fast rail project. A part of this upgrade features what has been described as one of the most monument bureaucratic stuff ups imaginable where parts of the line north of Kyneton were single tracked.
This section ends at Harcourt station. Bendigo area stations can be view by following this link.
