Westmere

Westmere is on the Glenelg Highway that goes between Ballarat and Hamilton. This was the nearest railway location to where I lived during the few years spent in the Western District in the ’70s. I never did see a train here, although during the wheat season, there were often rakes of GY wagons stabled near the silos. So I was keen for Davo to scan these images, to see what the place looked like some 15 years after I left the district. As can be seen the place was still pretty well intact, however I fancy some of the name boards had been recently removed when some of the pics were taken.

These days, the station building is still there, and so are the silos. The station was probably last maintained when Davo photographed it during his visits there in ’89. See more recent pictures are at Vicrail Stations or Railgeelong or further historical info at Vicsig
